Contractors especially those working on projects in the Kumasi Metropolis have been charged by the first gentleman of the state to as a matter of urgency complete Kumasi roads.
The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, tasked the various contractors working on the several road and infrastructural projects in the Kumasi Metropolis to ensure they are completed on time.
Nana Addo visited numerous project sites in Kumasi on Wednesday, 10th September, 2019, at the commencement of his 3-day tour of the Ashanti Region.
He emphasized in an interview with the press that, the apt completion of the road projects will not only enhance the status of Kumasi as the 2nd largest city of Ghana, but said it will also establish it as a major and strategic business destination in West Africa.
Not excluding the President’s visit to the Asante Monarch, Otumfour Osei Tutu (II) to receive his blessings throughout his tour, Nana Addo pledged to deliver on his mandate to the good people in the region and instilled to fulfill his promises to the people specifically on roads.
The President began his move after receiving blessings and support from the Asante and the World rated King, Otumfour Osei Tutu (II).
The President’s first port of call was at Atonsu, in the Asokwa constituency, where he inspected works on the Kumasi Drainage and Roads Extension Project.
The project, which is being undertaken by Chinese Company, China Henan International Co-operation Group (CHIGO), involves the lining of the Sissai River, for two kilometres, to reduce the incidence of flooding. Additionally, critical bridges and footbridges over the Sissai river to connect communities along the river are also being constructed.
The project engineers also told President Akufo-Addo that the project will result in the construction of a two-by-two dual carriageway from the Coca Cola bottling plant to Dompoase junction to ease traffic on the Kumasi Lake Road.
At Onwe, in the Ejisu constituency, the President inspected ongoing emergency works for the replacement of a collapsed bridge over River Oda on the Ejisu-Onwe-Kuntenase Road.
It will be recalled that the bridge collapsed after a heavy downpour on 30th June, 2018, resulting in a certificate of emergency being issued to Messrs Kofi Job Ltd to construct the new bridge and approach roads. The project is expected to be completed in December 2019.
Also, at Ejisu, the contractor, Messrs JOSHOB limited, tasked with constructing a new round about assured the President that the project will be completed in November 2019. The project is part of the remodeling of four roundabouts, between Ejisu and KNUST, to help improve safety, and reduce the heavy congestion being experienced on the N6 highway.
President Akufo-Addo also inspected work on the Lake Side Road where the contractor is expected to complete the project by March 2020 for commissioning.
Not forgetting Aboabo, the President also inspected works on the Aboabo to Airport Roundabout road.
Back to Asawase, he interacted with the people and assured them that the promises he made to them in the run up to the December 2016 elections, will be fulfilled before the 2020 elections but entreated them to vote for the NPP parliamentary candidate, Hon. Alidu Seidu.
The President’s entourage included many Ministers, Law Makers and other dignitaries.
Roads and Highways Minister, Hon. Akwasi Amoako Atta, a key member of the team added to the President will and stamped on the promise of completing Ashanti Region road projects within time.
At Suame Magazine, the President through the briefings of the road Minister disclosed that, 10 kilometer stretch of roads have been awarded and will be powered soon.
Hon. Akwasi Amoako Atta who is very optimistic with his pledges today during the second day of the President’s tour put smile on the faces Ejura locals after he point blank noted that, the government of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo with him as able Minister of Roads and Highways will complete every stretch of road in the area.
According to him, NPP government unlike their opponent who only constructed Ghana roads in their green book will make their promises to the people fulfilled.
“Trust my government of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo and trust me as your Roads and Highways Minister, your roads as well as Ghana road networks, will see permanent facelift. We only need your support to govern this nation for long for a brighter future”, he delightedly elaborated.
