All ears were widely opened and attention focused on Mr. Simon Osei Mensah the immediate former MP for Bosomtwe District and the current Ashanti Regional Minister as he honour his one year term of office under the presidency of Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo’s government on 22nd February.
He has been working hard throughout his 365 days equivalent to 1 year and there is no doubt his term worked to restore the confidence and pride of the people of the region, the region which has been the backbone for the ruling New Patriotic Party.
He is however commended for his bravery and attention to all the issues that came before his attention.
He contributed effectively to; rescuing clothes sellers business from collapsing due to a defaulting in paying tax as it was increased to the extent that, one Juliet Owusu Sekyere who was paying GH¢352.50 in 2016 and is now paying GH¢1200 with an increment of 240.9 per cent.
He also succeeded in stopping of Exon Cubic, a mining company which was own by a brother of Ibrahim Mahama a former president from illegally entering the Nyinahini bauxite concession by calling the young guys to order.
He settled disputes like; the misunderstanding between VIP bus Company and Intercity State Transport company, and also the recent trouble striken Atwiwa Nwabiagya where two communities namely, Foase and Twedea clashed over where the district capital should be cited. Capitation policy under the NHIS has successfully been solved.
Although he has done it all, ERIC ASAMOAH OF “OTEC FM” known as “Protocol ” has reminded him of one area still untouched which is Sanitation especially Kumasi. He appealed to him to work on the sanitation challenges as well as the intense congestion in Kumasi.
