The ministry of local government and rural development is set to embark on the most anticipated elections of MMDCEs in Ghana.
At a regional sensitisation workshop in the Ashanti Region, the Ashanti regional minister, Hon Simon Osei Mensah stated that election of MMDCEs is one of the campaign messages of President His excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo and the New Patriotic Party.
He added that over the few months the ministry in charge has done good a job and therefore ready to pass through the entrenched of the law and that will be in the form of referendum.
The minister for local government Hon. Hajiah Alima Mahama also stated that when this is done it will give the MMDCEs security and also motivates them to stay and work.
All stakeholders should be on board in support of the process,spread the word ,talk to people, and engage people to understand the process, she added
Continuing her speech she said Uganda came to Ghana to learn about the local government system and now they are electing all leaders so i am expecting Ghana to move in the same direction.
The minister of local government concluded that the main objective for the national consultation and Sensitization Workshop was to provide information as well as sensitize stakeholders on the functions and roles of the MMDCEs on partizan bases
