Lionel Messi beat Virgil van Dijk and Cristiano Ronaldo to win the best men’s player award at the Best FIFA awards; soring a total of 46 points, while Van Dijk scored 38 and Ronaldo 36 points.
The Barcelona star scored more league goals than anyone else in Europe last season, registering 36 times as he helped the Spanish side win another La Liga title: making it this 6th win and a step ahead rival- Cristiano Ronaldo.
It was the second award of the night for the Argentinian forward, who was also included in the men’s team of the 2018-19 season – as voted for by their fellow professionals.
The duo(Messi & Ronaldo), who have constantly dominated the award for about a decade got interrupted from their consecutive strings of wins by Luka Modric who earned the spot for the best last year.
Alisson picked up the individual goalkeeping accolade as well as being selected in the best XI after helping Liverpool to the Champions League title and Brazil win the Copa America.
Liverpool’s Klopp also wins Best FIFA Men’s Coach Award, while Megan Rapinoe takes home the Best FIFA Women’s Player Award.
