Renowned educationist and President of the action group, New Generation Teachers (NeGeT), Mr. Daniel Fenyi has advised WAEC to quickly reschedule the date for writing this year’s BECE which starts on Monday, June 4th.
According to Mr. Daniel Fenyi, June 4th 1979, is one of the darkest days in Ghana’s history where over 110 people, including millitary officers and former heads of state, Generals Acheampong, Afrifa and Akuffo were charged for various crimes and killed at the Revolutionary Square in broad daylight through firing squard by His Excellency the Former President of Ghana, Flt Lt (rtd) Jerry John Rawlings.
Mr. Daniel Fenyi insinuated that a positive event like BECE which determines students’ academic future should not take place on a date which is so negative in Ghana’s history. To Mr. Fenyi, this does not auger well for the students and the country as a whole.
The adept educationist cum counselor alleged that the worst part of it is that, both dates, that is 4th June 1979 and 2018, fall on a Monday this he claims is a bad omen to the BECE candidates and calls on WAEC to postpone the writing of the exams to a later date.
