Markets at Nkawie and other parts of the Ashanti Region were disinfected yesterday in an exercise meant to prevent the spread of coronavirus(COVID-19) pandemic also help to improve hygiene in the markets.
It was organised by the Ministry of Local Government, MMDAs and Rural Development in conjunction with the National Mosquito Control Programme, a subsidiary of the Jospong Group.
Hundreds of Zoomloin personnel equipped with various spraying machinery containing chlorine solution, were deployed acrose the region before 6a.m for the disinfection that lasted for over five hours.
The usual hustle and bustle associated with all the markets at Nwabiagya South District was absent, with the area completely deserted.
It took place in markets such as Nkawie market, Sepaase market, Maakro market, Agogo market, Manhyia market and Abuakwa market.
The Chief Exercutive of Atwima Nwabiagya South Hon. Micheal Amoah Awuku, Officials from NADMO and Security personnel supervised the exercise.
Hon. Amoah Awuku lamented that, President Akufo-Addo directive to clean all markets and other public places in the wake of the COVID-19 was going according to the plan in the town’s.
According to him, the government last week presented different items to the 43 MMDA’s in the Ashanti Region, including face masks, hand sanitizers and others to protect the people from COVID-19 before starting the disinfection exercise. We thank President Akufo-Addo for his able leadership, we are dermined to clean the cities and towns to ensure that people continue to be safe.
The markets were targeted for the exercise but surprisingly private shops owners joined and did not opened their shops for business.
Interestingly, residents of the busy town’s were also hiding indoors as if they were told to been so.
