A combined team of Military and police personnel has arrested some 141 people in a joint police/military swoop at Budumburam near Kasoa in the Central region.

Theoperation In Gomoa Budumburam was to rid the area of criminals.

The team comprising about 400 military officers and 200 police officers, swooped down on Gomoa Budumburam in the Gomoa East District, in the Central Region, which has gained notoriety for violent crimes in recent times.

More than 100 suspected criminals were arrested in the joint operation, on, Thursday, 12, 2019.

The suspects which include 15 females are currently undergoing screening at the Police headquarters.

In a statement, the Police said the move is part of measures being adopted to improve security across the country.

The statement added the exercise will be replicated in other parts of the country.

It comes after a chief was murdered in the area early this week by some unknown persons.

Two weeks ago, two policemen were gunned down after they attempted to stop some traffic offenders in a Toyota vehicle. The suspects are currently facing trial.

Two traffic police officers – Sergeant Michael Dzamesi and Lance Corporal Mohammed Awal – were shot and killed two weeks ago by a gang, when they were accosted after refusing to heed to a signal to stop.

This week, a sub-chief at Gomoa Akranmang, Nana Yaw Egyir, was gruesomely murdered by a mob allegedly following disagreements over a disputed land.

The early morning operation by the security team has earned high praise from the residents.

“They are very happy and commended the joint military and police team for arresting some suspected criminals who have been terrorising residents,” the reporter added.
